Normally on this type of trip there would be 20 overlanders (that’s what one calls oneself). This year the numbers are down, not just for this company, some companies are traveling with just 5/6 passengers. Our group numbers 12, this is an ideal number as it leaves plenty of sitting room on the truck and one can even have a tent to oneself which sorts out the snorers.

The majority of the group are over 40, the oldest is 72 and the youngest is 24. Severn are Australian, three are English, one Welsh man and me. The success of a overland trip comes down to the dynamics within the group, the ability to help each other and tolerance.
