Driving northwards through the King Nehale Gate we stop for lunch on the road before arriving in the town of Outapi where we are going to over night at the Ombalantu Baobab Tree Heritage Centre.
The Ombalantu baobab tree, known also as a Tree of Life, is a giant Baobab tree of the species Adansonia digitata. It is 28 metres tall, 26.5 metres in diameter and estimated to be 800 years old.
The tree trunk has a door going into it and can accommodate about 35 people. It has served as a chapel, post office, house, and a hiding place during various stages of Namibian history. Today the tree is a tourist attraction.
